Riders by Veronica Rossi, TOR Teen, February 2016 – Review by Larry Yoder
This is one of the few times that you will hear me say, if a second book is coming then sign me up now!
Aspiring U.S. Army ranger, Gideon Blake is killed in an accident – but he awakens, heals within a day and finds a strange cuff on his wrist. He’s no longer just a teen – he is War, one of the four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Along with the other three Horsemen, Conquest, Famine and Death, all equally young and also still learning about their powers, Gideon must save the world from an ancient evil.
This story kept me on the edge of my seat. The story has a reality to it – although the Horsemen have supernatural abilities, they, like us, struggle with emotional problems and have well-developed back stories. The battle against demons is violent, like a military adventure.
Riders may be the best fantasy I have read this year, a great read for high school and above, both male and female. Extraordinary, love this book.
